Part of Calgary’s momentum

A growing ecosystem for ambitious technology.

Calgary Economic Development reports more than 1,300 core technology companies in the city. RSC adds practical, senior-led product engineering to that community through modern software, applied AI, automation, and AWS systems.

The goal is not novelty for its own sake. It is useful technology with experienced control, clear tradeoffs, and sensible economics.

About Mike

Practical leadership for consequential software.

2016202610th anniversary year

Mike Cottingham founded Razor Sharp Consulting in Calgary in 2016 to build useful software with experienced people close to the work. He has led product and engineering efforts across telecommunications, healthcare, oil and gas, mining, safety, finance, and startups.

His leadership style is practical, direct, and collaborative. Mike keeps the business outcome, product decisions, and technical reality in the same conversation. Clients see working software early, understand tradeoffs as they emerge, and know when a decision needs their input.

Projects run in short cycles with senior developers close to architecture, security, review, quality, and product judgment. This gives teams enough structure to surface risk early without burying delivery in ceremony.

RSC also takes these product conversations to technology, energy, safety, and construction events across Canada. See our conference attendance

How Mike runs projects

Clear intent, short cycles, visible decisions.

Mike starts by aligning the team on the business outcome and the people the product must serve. Each cycle then produces working software, explicit tradeoffs, and a useful next decision.

  1. 01

    Get clear

Learn what the business needs, who the product serves, and what success must look like.

  2. 02

    Make the plan

Turn the opportunity into a scope, technical direction, delivery plan, and working team.

  3. 03

    Build in the open

Use two-week delivery cycles to keep progress visible and create useful checkpoints.

  4. 04

    Ship & support

Release with care, document the system, and stay available after the first launch.
